Introduction to World Youth Chess Champion WFM Qiyu Zhou and Canadian Chess Olympian in 2014

My name is Qiyu Zhou (born in 2000), a 14-year-old high school girl from Ottawa. I became the world U14g chess champion in the World Youth Chess Championship, Durban, South Africa in this September 2014. It is my great honor to represent Canada for the 41st Chess Olympics in August, 2014, Tromso, Norway. As of July 1, 2014, my Chess Federation of Canada rating is 2295, which ranks me as the #2 woman overall in Canada. My another important tournament was the 2nd place in June 2014, U18 girls section of North American Youth Chess Championship (Note: I played up from U14 to U18.), and gained the WFM title in Tarrytown, the USA.

My  passion in chess was demonstrated at a very young age. All my past achievements show that I am currently one of the strongest chess players within my age category in the world, and will be one of the strongest female chess players in the world. I started chess in France and Finland. When I was only 4 years old, I won the 4th place in the French U8 girls’ Youth Chess championship. After moving from France to Finland, at the age of five I won the 2005 Finnish Under 10 open Youth Chess championship, ahead of boys nearly twice my age. Thus, I was the world’s youngest-ever national chess champion. I won the silver medal for Finland in the 2008 WYCC in Vietnam. Then I won the Nordic School Chess Champion as the only female chess player in U11 open in 2010.  Here is the list of my main results, at home and in the most competitive world chess championships:
