Today Finnish Kaleva published an on-line story of Qiyu: “Qiyu Zhou finally became World Champion”


Qiyu left us a message there. “Chess kids from Seneca Hill Chess Club, let’s work together to accomplish our childhood dreams. from Qiyu Zhou”

I would like to thank you all for supporting our fundraising for Qiyu Zhou. We have raised a total of $372 from the sales of scorebooks and donation.

Here are the money collected from each location. (A player participates in multiple locations will be counted multiple times. Therefore the actual total number is smaller than the total added up.)

Monday at TM $67

Thursday at Seneca Hill $65

Saturday at Our Lady of Guadalupe $140

Chess ‘n Math, will the kind assistance of the RA Chess Club, will be sponsoring an event with Girls Under-14 World Chess Champion Qiyu Zhou. Qiyu will be playing 25 simultaneous chess games on Sunday, October 26. The event will take place at the RA Centre, in the Outaouais Room starting at 1:00pm.

Everyone is welcome to come out and meet Qiyu and watch the games. If you have attended a Chess ‘n Math tournament or camp in the last year then you are eligible to play against Qiyu. There will be a fee of $10 to help Qiyu continue her chess career.

Yesterday was a great day for the activities organized by the Chess’n Math Association (CMA)!

First, Brad Thomson, CMA Regional Director, had the pleasure of presenting Qiyu (on behalf of the Chess’n Math Association) a cheque for $500 and a $500 Gift Certificate at Strategy Games, for recently becoming WORLD CHAMPION, in the Girls under 14 competition!! Qiyu won the National Championship (Canadian Chess Challenge) for her grade the last two years!

Incredible result…and we are totally proud!

In Toronto yesterday, the incredible Francis Rodriques and his awesome team set a new attendance record for our Halloween scholastic chess tournament…a total of 225 youngsters took part! Congrats folks…you are special!

In Montreal, where attendance has been going downhill over the last year, Virginie Roux and her team boosted our numbers back over 100! Great to see!!

All in all, I am a very happy fellow today…we have a great team!
